Deoriatal Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila Trek is a popular trek in the Garhwal Himalayas that offers stunning views of the Himalayas, valleys, rare Himalayan birds, blossoms, and a serene environment. The trek is accessible almost throughout the year, including the winter months of November, December, and January, offering a variety of experiences.

The duration of the trek is three days, making it perfect for weekend getaways from Delhi. The trek is loved by nature enthusiasts, pro trekkers, photographers, and bird-watching amateurs alike. It never disappoints anyone with its beauty and experiences.

The highlights of the Deoriatal Tungnath Chandrashila trek include magnificent views of Mt. Chaukhamba from Chandrashila peak and Deoriatal, Tungnath temple - the world's highest Lord Shiva temple, and the scenic Deoriatal Lake.

The trek starts from Sari, a small village located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 6,601 feet, and ends at Chopta, a tiny settlement that serves as the gateway to Tungnath temple and Chandrashila peak, which stands at 3,998 meters.

The trekking distance is approximately 14 kilometers, and the total trekking time is about 18 hours spread over three days. The trek passes through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and deodar trees, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, including Kedar Dome, Chaukhamba, and Nanda Devi.

The trek's difficulty level is easy, making it suitable for novice trekkers as well as experienced ones.

What is included in the tour

  • Transportation: Tempo Traveler/SUV or private vehicle as per batch size for Delhi to Delhi transportation.
  • Accommodation: 2 Night accommodation in Swiss Camps in Chopta.

Itinerary
  • Day 1:Delhi to Chopta via Rishikesh
  1. The group will assemble at the pick-up point at 9 PM.
  2. After a brief introduction session given by the Trip captain, we will head towards Chopta. 
  3. En route, we'll be traversing the confluence of the Ganga river with breathtaking views of Devprayag, and Rudraprayag.
  4. Note: The pickup point would be Akshardham Metro Station. 

  • Day 2 : Chopta Arrival | Leisure day

  1. Upon arrival, we will check into our campsites at Chopta and unwind in the lap of nature.
  2. The rest of the day is at leisure but we will be indulging in some exciting group bonding activities.
  3. In the evening, we will have dinner followed by an overnight stay in the camps.
  • Day 3 : Trek to Tungnath Chandrashila (4 Kilometers, 4 Hours)

  1. After early morning breakfast, we'll start our trek from Chopta to Chandrashila summit.
  2. En route, we'd be traversing through Tungnath which is situated at an elevation of 12,106 ft and is the Highest Shiva Temple in the World. En route, we'll have packed lunch.
  3. At an altitude of 12, 110 ft, the Chandrashila top offers majestic views of Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch, and Chaukhamba peaks. After spending some time at the top, marveling at the beauty of the Himalayas, we will head back to Chopta.
  4. Dinner followed by overnight stay in Chopta.
  • Day 4: Visit Deoria Tal | Departure
  1. After early morning breakfast, we'll check out of our campsites and drive towards Sari Village.
  2. Upon our arrival, we'll start a trek to Deoria Tal which is a pristine lake popular for offering beautiful reflections of the Chaukhamba peaks on its glass-like surface.
  3. Afterward, we'll board an overnight Tempo Traveler/SUV and start our return journey to Delhi.
  • Day 5 : Delhi Arrival | Trip Ends
  1. We will arrive in Delhi by early morning.
  2. The group will part ways with fond memories.
  3. End of Tour.

Things To Carry
  • Photocopy of your Identity Proof (Passport / Voter ID Card/PAN Card/Aadhar Card/ Driving License)

  • Good trekking shoes
  • 2 Water Bottles (1 liter each)
  • Woolen or Fleece Gloves and a pair of waterproof gloves
  • Cotton socks and woolen socks (2 pairs each)
  • Balaclava, Woolen scarf – If you do not have a Balaclava, you can carry a Monkey cap instead
  • Thermal Inners
  • Fleece Jacket, Snow Jacket, or Padded Jacket 
  • Windcheater or Poncho
  • 2-3 pairs of trek pants
  • 2 collared and full-sleeved fitted t-shirts
  • Camera or Binoculars
  • Ready-to-eat snacks, Enerzyl Powder or Glucon D Powder – Carry nuts, dry fruits, energy bars to munch during the trek. They provide instant energy whenever it hits the lower base.
  • Cap, Sunglasses – Do ensure that your sunglasses are UV Protected. Do not carry reflectors.
  • Headlamp/LED Torch – Mandatory
  • Toiletries – Sunscreen, Moisturizer, light towel, lip balm, wet wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, Hand Sanitizer, Mosquito repellent, if required
  • Polythene Bags or Zip-lock Bags – These help to segregate wet clothes, used wet wipes or sanitary napkins on a trek
  • Any medicines that you normally consume – Please consult your doctor in this regard
  • An empty tiffin box and spoon to have your meals since the usage of plastic vessels is not allowed on the trek      
Rules And Regulations
  • Smoking and drinking publicly is strictly prohibited.
  • Throwing garbage on trails is strictly not allowed.
  • Participants should carry their own waste with them
  • Playing loud music in the mountains is prohibited.
  • Writing anything or any activity leading to disobedience of historical places is prohibited.
  • Tents will be allotted as per male and female ratio by team captains, no requests will be entertained.
  • Pick up and drop will be at the same location ( however you are free to get down on the route while return journey.)
  • Team captains' decisions on any particular situation will be final for the mutual benefit of participants.
  • If the behavior of any trekker is likely to cause distress or harm to themselves, our member of staff or other team members, reserve the right to terminate their trip at any time and they will have to make their own arrangements; we will not be liable for any expenses incurred as a result. We will not entertain any claims arising due to such action.
  • In case of any injuries/illness on a mountain/river/waterfall during a trip/activity, Trek Panda as a company or our local staff will not be responsible. We provide adequate human staff support in these areas to ensure the basic safety of the trekker. The trekker/customer has to bear all the expenses which may arise in case of medical exigency or emergency condition.
  • As it is likely that in these sorts of trips weather must be taken into account, if conditions are such that we have to change arrangements we will not be able to provide any sort of refund. If there are any other circumstances including but not limited to riot, political unrest, natural or other disaster, nuclear incident, terrorist activity, and we have to cancel a trip as a result of these circumstances, we will not be able to provide any sort of refund.
